We use fertile, cage-free eggs from Trader Joe's. We pay an extra $2 per dozen but we think it is worth it...for your well-being and to bring a positive change to the poultry industry.
We inquired with TJ's and they replied that TJ's eggs come from chickens that are NOT debeaked and have access to a nesting box. That also means that they have more space to spread their wings. They are hormone-free, antibiotic-free and fed a 100% vegetarian diet. Not perfect, but a step in the right direction, don't you agree?
You see, behind each conventional egg, there is a sad story: of debeaking (slicing off a bird's sensitive beak), of forced molting (starving them to force more egg-laying), of never being out in the sun and fresh air, of being crammed in a space smaller than a sheet of paper, of being denied their basic instinct to lay eggs in a private place.
We choose not to support these sad practices. We choose to buy happy eggs instead.
